James Loy was born in Sheffield, England, in 1953. He moved to Blackpool
in 1963. In 1976 he went to work in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and returned
to Blackpool with his family in 1997.

The family set up a self-catering holiday business on Blackpool's North Promenade at Malindi Holiday Flats from where, in his spare time he was able to go to college to study art and design.
The goals he achieved with the support of his family were, a Foundation Course in Art and Design and a HND in Fine Art.
